Mind Boggling
March 20th/25.

I don’t imagine I am the only one with a head that is boggled by the events of the past several weeks. Being a pretty stubborn guy with theories and bios, it is hard to give into change. However, I do believe that we are all coming to the realization that nothing as good as it once was can last forever. Canada, where I was born from a first-generation Canadian mother and father, has been very good to me and our family. For myself, I have been moderately successful but only as a result of hard work, good luck and circumstances confronting me that I had to decide to either play it safe or take a leap of faith and go for it. No matter how outrages my family and friends thought I was, I jumped in with both feet and scrambled to the finish line usually unscathed.
I wish that my country Canada was as well blessed. For almost 90 years, I have witnessed a country with all the opportunities any country could desire, Canada has buried itself a hole that will take a miracle to overcome. We the people are industrious, smart and resourceful. When given a challenge to compete with our neighbours to the south, all things being equal, we do pretty well. However, our culture took a turn early in our life and it has hindered our ability to be on a level field with our American cousins. I believe we have been dupped by our politicians and our desire for more socialist safety nets. This has made us more dependent on others. The others are obvious, the U.S.A. Trump is right when he says we are not pulling our weight in world affairs. Our politicians have been bribing us with our own money and not protecting us with good economic decisions. We have allowed our armed forces to dwindle to a weak band of pronouns with little or no war machinery to protect us from people like Donald Trump who sees an opportunity of weakness and is ready to do what he does best. He is a specialist at taking advantage of other’s mistakes and now he has a position of ultimate power. He is going to do what other Presidents would like to have done in the past but were not in as enviable place as Trump. What a grand scheme it is when you view the situation with the eyes of the ultimate entrepreneur and bully, Mr. President Donald J Trump. He sees North America and Greenland all under one administration with the Suez Canal thrown in for good measure. Two countries not able to protect their vast wealth of freshwater, petroleum, minerals and rare earth elements and control over two of the world’s water passages, one old and one just emerging as to become even more important to the future of the country that controls it. Of course, how this will be accomplished in a peaceful way to maintain world peace, is another story. I am sure the world and especially China and Russia will want to be involved. This would be one of the world’s most ambitious undertakings. Who but Donald J. Trump and perhaps his buddy (right now) multi billionaire Elon Musk, partnering up to see a new world map showing the U.S.A. from the Gulf of America to the Arctic circle. Could they pull it off? Only Time Will Tell.
Getting back to the realities of life in today’s world, what is happening leading up to what seems to be a vision of impossible. As if Trump didn’t have enough on his plate, he now seems to want to direct Canadians as to who we should vote for in our next federal election. This is where we see a leader starting to lose control over his thoughts and actions. Trump’s interview with Fox’s Laura Ingram of Mar.18th/25, shows a man that is obsessed with power to the point where he starts to ramble on contradicting himself. Canada is the nastiest country to deal with. They lie and cheat and take 200 billion dollars every year from the U.S. (this is a false claim) Then in the next breath, I love Canadians and Canada I can just see that beautiful country and the beautiful people under the Stars and Stripes. He repeated over and over “I don’t care- I don’t care” I hate the Conservative leader because he said negative things about me. I don’t know him but I would rather deal with the Liberals. The liberals are better to deal with”. - It is well known that Trump has had a hate on for Trudeau and Freeland and the Canadian negotiating team including Butts and Carney and many others. He does not like anyone that gets in his way of total control. Perhaps we have done a better job against a lesser U.S. team in the past. He wants to make that right. Trump claims our Canadian negotiators have lied in the past, I am sure they have, after all, they are politicians.
The question is, who do we vote for in this next Federal fiasco?
Who would be the best choice for Canada’s future? Trudeau is now out of the picture and his main opponent was Poilievre, there was no contest, now there is. Carney is the Liberal unelected candidate. He has the advantage of being better recognized by the electorate. Is his record all that great? Poilievre has stated that Trump wants to go against the Liberals because they are weak and he thinks they will cave to his demands. I tend to agree. Generally speaking, bankers are not very good negotiators. Like politicians, the assets they are negotiating are not their personal property.
Mark Carney has carved a life of dedication to his work and to his family. Education and respect for the environment is crucial in the Carney family. His wealth by comparison to others with similar situations, is modest. His predecessor, Justin Trudeau has amassed a fortune 30 times larger than Carney. Carney worked for his status. Both are considered millionaires. Prime Minister Mark Carney is entering a new phase in his life, one that is not at all as forgiving as in the financial world. Politics is not for the meek. I not a Liberal but I wish this man good luck in the world of politics. For the above reasons, I do think Poilievre is right, Trump will eat Carney’s lunch at the negotiating table.
Canada cannot continue as we have in the past. We need big changes and as good a man Carney may be, he does not have the right team supporting him. Liberal politicians have slipped too far to the left.
I am not sure a career politician is up to the task of taking on the negotiator either. Both men are Roman Catholic and that really does not have much to do with who is a better opponent to the Donald, except to say, whoever it is, they had better be well prepared for a tough and dirty fight. Poilievre is almost 20 years younger than Carney and I am sure has had more experience in these political situations but we will see. Trump really does not abide by the Liberal policy we Canadians have been living under this past eight years. When this feud is over, I feel that Poilievre would hit it off better with Trump than would Carney.
My position has up until recently been for Trump and his attempt to drain the Washington swamp and what no other president has ever tried in cleaning America of many of its problems and making it Great again. Everyone should want that for his country. I could see a great revival back to when America had morals and lived by them. I liked that there was peace when he was president four years earlier. I did not like the Biden years as I do not like the Trudeau years. However, I feel that Trump is going into very deep water and he had better learn to swim even better than he talks. His threats against my country are taking things too far. We are a sovereign nation and with all our faults, we are not going to be pushed around by a big blustery New York thug. We can and hopefully will fight back if it comes to that. I love much of what you have done in the past few weeks in power, Mr. President. It takes your kind to make the world turn more easily but slow down now and be reasonable. You can’t just take over a country whether it be Ukraine, Greenland, Gaza or Canada. You are not God!
With respect, Canada has witnessed a lesson that Pres. Trump should take to the bank.
President Trump “Your friends today can be your enemies tomorrow.” You are riding high on a cloud of euphoria today. However, your mandate to do pretty much as you wish must be respected or you can be dethroned as fast as you were anointed. There is still a lot of hate in this world for you and that could at any time, cause today’s fans to become tomorrow’s enemies.
When we look at the world today, Canadians should look to the future and anticipate the decisions our leaders are making now and how if no action is taken, what could the future hold for us. Canada, with its wealth of raw materials and fresh water is a Gem worth fighting for. If we are not aligned with a super power, we will be taken over by one of three evils. As I see it, some day we will have to decide, will our friend and allies be the United States, Russia or China? That should not be a hard decision to make. Our future is in the balance.
